Winners of beauty contests are often called beauty queens. Interestingly, a lot goes into becoming a beauty queen; it is not all just about looks. With that said, adult and teen pageants actually focus on makeup, hair and gowns, swimsuit modeling and personal interviews. That last part, pageant interviews, are some of the most important parts of a beauty pageant.
Winning a beauty pageant can mean fame, titles, tiaras or crowns, sashes, savings bonds, and cash prizes. For many decades, newspapers held photo beauty contests. In 1880, the first “Bathing Beauty Pageant” took place as part of a summer festival to promote business in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Today, there are many different beauty pageants for people of different ages to enter. On that note, there are roughly 250,000 contestants who compete in beauty pageants every year.
