Even though most of us have said it at one time or another, the phrase “sleep tight” goes all the weigh back to the 1500s. As with most phrases that have lost their literal meaning after many years modern idiomatic usage, “sleep tight” used to mean more than the equivalent of “good night.” During those good old olden times, the phrase originated during a time when mattresses consisted of ropes that needed tightening before a person could sleep atop of them. As such, these early mattresses were akin to hammocks fashioned from ropes.
Thankfully, that phrase is no longer relevant to us, for we have the luxury of selecting from any number of modern mattresses. What does this mean? It means a better night’s sleep for everyone.
Latex mattresses are one of the more popular types of organic mattresses. Why is this? Well, latex mattresses contain a natural type of oil that resists moisture and bed bugs. Also, the unique physical, rubber-like properties of latex, it conforms better to the human body. Of course, even if you don’t have allergies, it makes complete sense to invest in a high-quality natural mattress. Oh, organic mattresses also just happen to be very eco-friendly. What’s not to like?
